Heraklion

Heraklion is the administrative capital of Crete. It is a lively city with bars and restaurants. A city close to the sea and the mountains and also to historical monuments like Knossos palace.

Visa

Greece is a member of the European Union and part of the Schengen area. Please check if need a visa to enter Greece. In case you do, please apply as soon as possible: we have lost a few students already in previous years because of visa issues :-(

Travel

Heraklion
From the Airport
By bus :
The airport is very well-connected to the city centre by public bus. One-way ticket price : € 1.70
By taxi :
It takes less than 10 minutes to get to the city centre and costs no more than € 28.

From the Port
Most city hotels are within walking distance from the Port of Heraklion.
By taxi :
It takes less than 5-10 minutes to get to any of the city hotels and costs no more than € 18.

Chania
From the Airport
By bus :
From Chania airport there are is bus service to the Heraklion (through Chania or Rethymno). Please keep in mind that you might have to switch bus in Chania or Rethymno. It takes around 3 hours and the ticket is around € 15.

Accommodation

Please follow the instructions you got by email. Most participants will be staying at the hotel Castello City Hotel, Leof. 62 Martiron 1 (Λεωφ. 62 Μαρτύρων 1), 71304 Heraklion.

Venue

The course will take place at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology of the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas in Nikolaou Plastira 100 (Νικολάου Πλαστήρα 100), 70013 Heraklion.
